Mr Bernard Magama Tongogara did his secondary education at Thornhill high in Gweru, before enrolling for apprenticeship training with the Ministry of Health from 1985 to 1989, as an Instrumentation and Control Technician. He concurrently read Electrical Engineering and wrote City and Guilds of London. Immediately after qualifying he left for Ziscostell, where he worked as a Senior Electronics and Computer Technician for three years. It is at Zisco that he initiated his inseparable marriage with Technology. He left Zisco for ZESA at Munyati Power Station as an Senior Instrumentation and Control Technician during the refurbishment of the Power Station. A year later he was promoted to Training Officer Electronics and Information Technology at ZESA National Training Centre for seven years. He was instrumental in bringing technology to the Training centre; that is setting up of the network and relevant systems for training, during the last three years he doubled as the Systems Administrator. Mr Tongogara left Zesa through voluntary retrenchment in 2001.
He revived his career in 2002 at Harare Institute of Technology where he rose to become Head of Department Development Studies, before joining Public Service Commission as the Information Technology Manager 2005. He left PSC immediately after implementing the SAP Project to join Hwange Colliery Company as the Information Technology Manager in 2006. In 2008 he was promoted to Information Communication Technology Manager’s post, a position he holds to date. He is married to Maria.
Tongogara holds the following qualifications: MBA, Zimbabwe Open University, City and Guilds London T5 Electrical Engineering, HND in Computer studies, Diploma Instrumentation and Control and Diploma Business Management and Administration. He is a member of the Computer Society of Zimbabwe (ASZ 990005).
